…a Lene Nystrøm (quem???) é norueguesa? Eu reformulo… SABIAM QUE… a vocalista dos Aqua (aquela que cantava “I’m a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world (…)” é norueguesa? Pois é. A banda é dinamarquesa, mas o grupo importou a miúda.

E os anos também passaram por ela… Vejam aqui o antes e o depois:

…Lene Nystrøm (who???) is norwegian? I rephrase… DID YOU KNOW… the vocalist of Aqua (the one singing “I’m a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world (…)”) is norwegian? Yup. The band is danish but the group imported the girl.

Primeiras impressões | First impressions

– Afinal no final de Agosto ainda é Verão na Noruega.

– Os nórdicos são impecáveis no que diz respeito a aquecimento, mas tenho para mim que ainda não lhes foi introduzido o significado de ar condicionado (sim, às vezes é preciso!).

– Qualquer dia em que o sol brilhe é para aproveitar até ao último minuto. Lá fora e com pouca roupa.

– Correr em Oslo não é mais fácil do que correr no Porto. Up and down, up and down, up and down.

– É preciso tomar um Xanax antes de pagar a conta do supermercado.

– Os noruegueses começam a trabalhar ainda o galo não cantou. (inveeeeja!)

– Os noruegueses vão para a cama quando em Portugal ainda está a dar “O Preço Certo”. (inveeeeja!)

– Os noruegueses saem do trabalho sem terem ainda terminado a digestão do almoço. (inveeeeja!)

– Os noruegueses armam-se em pássaros, porque tuuuuuuudo leva sementes e coisas dessas.

– Tendo conhecido dinamarqueses, estou deliciada com a simpatia destes nórdicos.

– Portugueses emigrados ou de férias na Noruega - ainda não os vi nem ouvi. O que é estranho. Acho - mas só acho - que ouvi falar uns brasileiros na rua.

– Os noruegueses aproveitam a vida, porra!

– In Norway it is summer late August, after all.

– Scandinavians are great concerning to heat places, but I guess the concept of air con has not been introduced here yet (yes, sometimes it is needed!).

– Any sunny day shall be enjoyed until the last minute. Outside and with few clothes on.

– Running in Oslo is not easier than running in Porto: up and down, up and down, up and down.

– You need to take a Xanax before paying the supermarket bill.

– Norwegians start working before the rooster crows. (jeaaaalousy!)

– Norwegians go to bed when “O Preço Certo” is still playing on TV in Portugal. (jeaaaalousy!)

– Norwegians get off work before they have finished lunch digestion. (jeaaaalousy!)

– Norwegians may think they are birds, since almost eeeeevery single meal includes seeds and stuff like that.

– Having known Danes, I am delighted by how “random Norwegians” are nice people.

– Portuguese living in Norway or just spending some vacation days – I haven’t seen them yet. That is weird. I think – but it is just a thought – that I have heard Brazilians talking in the streets.

– Norwegians enjoy life (and we should learn from it).

My opinion #1

Cheguei! | Just arrived!

Não me vou por aqui com lamexices e emoções, que para quem não sabe eu sou uma pessoa fria e calculista (brincadeirinha…). Era tudo muito bonito, muito bonito, mas hoje isto foi hard core. Pronto, já disse.

Housing, employment agreement, international researcher, foreigner employee, duties, social security, taxes, bank account. Todas estas palavras fizeram parte do meu vocabulário durante as últimas semanas. E tenho a certeza que muitas delas vão permanecer por mais umas quantas. É muita burocracia, muito papel, muito email trocado, muita leitura.

Daqui a uns meses (yeahhh!) já tudo isto estará encaminhado. Não se preocupem. O que importa é que já cá estou e não vou precisar de dormir debaixo da ponte. Em breve será o meu primeiro dia no novo laboratório. E eu sinto-me como se fosse o meu primeiro dia de escola.

P.S. – Dizem que hoje é o Dia do Migrante. 13 de Agosto. Coincidência ou não, eu passei-o a migrar. Que seja um bom prenúncio.

I'm not going to start writing about emotions and bla bla bla because, for the ones who don’t know me, I have to say that I am a cold hearted person (ok, just kidding…). Everything seemed to be ok with my emotional health but today this was hard core. Said it.

Housing, employment agreement, international researcher, foreigner employee, duties, social security, taxes, bank account. All these words were part of my daily vocabulary for the past few weeks. And I am sure many of them will remain for some weeks more. It is a lot of bureaucracy, documents, emails sent and received, and also a lot of reading.

In some months (yeahhh!) all of this will be on its way. Don’t worry! The most important is that I’ve arrived and won’t have to sleep outdoors. Soon will be my first day at the new lab. And I feel as if it was my first day at school.
