...há uma coisa que se chama "matpakke". "Há o quê??" Há uma coisa chamada matpakke. A dita lancheira.
Quentinha. Restos do jantar de ontem aquecido
no microondas do trabalho. Não. O matpakke
Eu cá continuo a
comer o meu almocinho quentinho.
manteiga. Sorry, Norwegians!
(Isto é na verdade
um matpakke para um bebé de 15 meses.
Mas serve como matpakke representativo
por agora. E obrigada à Tupperware
por patrocinar a parte do pakke.)

…there is something called “matpakke”.
"There is what??" There is something called matpakke. The so-called lunch
box. But I'm an emigrant and I can't say lunchbox anymore. Only matpakke.
The matpakke
is the lunch of, let’s say, 80% of all Norwegians (ok, I have no idea, I'm
making it up, but they are many for sure). These people don't eat good and warm
food for lunch. Not leftovers from yesterday's dinner heated in the microwave
at work either. No, no. The matpakke
consists of slices of bread with stuff on top. It's not bread with butter, like
we always eat in Portugal. It's bread with stuff – fancy ham, cheese with
pepper, avocado, liver pate... and a little bit of fruit.
But do never dare to call it a sandwich!
Because all the stuff are not in between two slices of bread. No. This concept
has not yet arrived here. It's a slice of bread, it's stuff on top, it's a
little squared piece of special paper on top so it doesn't stick to the rest,
it's another slice of bread, and so on and so on until you have enough of
bread.
I still have warm lunch almost everyday,
though. Bread with stuff is my thing, but only for breakfast. Sometimes with
butter, yup. Sorry, Norwegians!
(This is actually a matpakke for afternoon snacks of a 15-month old baby. It works as a representative matpakke for now. And thank you, Tupperware, for sponsoring the pakke part.)
